How to inform NatWest of a bereavement

Natwest has made it as simple as possible to let them know about a bereavement during a difficult time through their online digital service. There are still options available to contact them by telephone or visit a branch to inform them, but the digital service is the quickest way.

Visit the website address: https://www.natwest.com/life-moments/bereavement.html and complete the questionnaire to notify them of the death

Call the support team on 0800 161 5903 (lines are open Monday to Friday from 9am until 5pm).

Visit one of their 678 nationwide branches - you can use their ‘Branch Locator’ search tool to find one nearest to you.

What documentation will you need to provide to NatWest to register the death?

To let NatWest know about the death using their ‘Click & Notify’ service you will need:

  • Your name and contact details - they may also ask for your proof of ID and address
  • To be aged 18 or above.
  • A valid email address
  • A UK mobile number
  • Details such as date of death, customer address, account and card details

What happens next?

Once you have registered the death with NatWest and they have frozen the account(s) they will let you know what documents they will need to then close the deceased’s account(s) and they will also inform you if there are any remaining balances that might need to be transferred.
